Thai Director Takes Fight to Censors

Censorship in Thailand has a long and complicated history, with the powers that be resorting to everything from watered-down news reports to blurred nudity to outright denial, depending on the year and topic. Despite the 1932 introduction of democracy and its associated liberties, film freedom has largely been ignored. Pinkville Goes Dark

The ripples from the WGA strike in Hollywood are starting to be felt worldwide, as several high-profile projects scheduled to shoot in Thailand have been put on hold for the foreseeable future, affecting hundreds of local actors and crew members.

The most notable victim is Oliver Stone’s Pinkville, a film detailing the infamous Vietnamese My Lai massacre of 1968. Production was slated to begin in early December but has since been suspended indefinitely. Read the rest of this entry »
